Why a green jersey?
Today we immediately associate Saint-Etienne with the green color of the ASSE Manufrance jersey . But history will remember that it was in 1919 when the club was called "the friendly society of employees of the Casino Store Company" that the sports team made up of amateur players chose to adopt the historic colors of Casino, green and white like the blinds and shutters of the first Casino store itself located on rue des...jardins! At the time, the importance of the employer and his paternalistic influence was great on his employees, which allowed the development of an entrepreneurial spirit and above all a form of affection around the brand. Since the ASSE jersey has retained its emblematic colours and is now inseparable from the famous European epic of the Greens of 1976...even if for contractual reasons the Manufrance jersey was never worn during the Saint-Etienne club's European matches!
A legendary and iconic jersey
THE Manufrance jersey the greens of AS Saint-Etienne with its blue-white-red V-neck and the presence of tricolor stripes on the edge of the sleeves has today become a legendary jersey and recognized as such by all football fans but more generally by all French people. The greatest French players of this era thus played with the famous Manufrance jersey : Rocheteau, Larqué, Sarramagna, Curkovic and many others have made the legendary green and white crest of ASSE shine throughout France and Europe accompanied on the players' chests by the logo Manufrance ! We will remember the three consecutive French championship titles (1974, 1975, 1976), the three French Cups (1974, 1975 and 1977) and the famous European Cup final against Bayern Munich in 1976.
The Manufrance/ASSE partnership
The partnership between Manufrance and ASSE spans from 1973 to 1979 and corresponds to a period during which the Saint-Etienne club is at its peak. Indeed, the sporting results during this period are the best that the Loire club has ever known. More than a simple partnership, the rapprochement between Manufrance and ASSE has above all made it possible to associate two symbols of the city of Saint-Etienne by positioning on the ASSE jersey The logo of a local company that has become a true French industrial and commercial flagship. This partnership, beyond its financial aspect, is therefore synonymous with success and victory while respecting the values of work and self-sacrifice.
